"Reproductive Rights". Reproductive rights should not be confused with the right to abortion proclaimed by some feminist groups (green handkerchiefs), since other groups of the pro-life community (two lives) are against it (light blue scarves). It would have been essential for Argentina to have called for a plebiscite, the purest expression of democracy, to resolve the issue at hand.
According to the Cairo International Conference on Population and Development, reproductive rights are based on the recognition of the basic right of all people to decide freely and responsibly on all aspects of their reproduction. They also include access to basic conditions that allow for informed and free reproductive decision-making, and full decision-making. They also highlight the responsibility of States and the various social actors to ensure these rights.
